YORUBA

The Yoruba empire is an ancient civilization that lasted for 1000 to 1880. The Yoruba used to be known as the Oya, and was extremely prosperous from 1200 to 1400. The Yoruba empire had a period of major expansion in which they focused nearly entirely on economic expansion. They were skilled ivory and woodworkers. They also have a common ancestor from the Benin, descending from the Ife king. The Yoruba finally fell when the king was exiled.
