BAMBUTI

The BaMButi are located in the Ituri rainforest in the modern day Democratic Republic of Congo. Living in a rainforest is a challenge, there are many insects, possibly with diseases, as well as sweltering heat, and not too much easy to get food. Water was not an issue, thus the name rainforest, however there was not much trading, if any, and although there were many potential enemies in the area, they were somewhat hidden by the rainforest. The tribes of BaMButi were  stateless societies, meaning that they have no government, and live in small groups, usually of people who are related through family. The military was unorganized, and used wooden and stone weapons and bows and arrows. The BaMButi ubelieve in a god named Tore, He created the world and the rainforest they live in. During times of crisis, the BaMButi will call to Tore for help. They will imitate his voice by using a trumpet. When a BaMButi dies, they believe that they’re spirit will be taken to Tore by a fly. The BaMButi are generally very short, averaging around 4 foot 6 inches, for this reason many times you will see them called Pygmies. In modern day, the BaMButi are constantly in a bad relationship with the nearby Bantu villagers. Recently they fought a battle in which 16-32 BaMButi were killed over a tax that shouldn’t exist imposed by the Bantu, historically the Bantu have also take the BaMButi as slaves, and in 2003, a complaint issued to the United Nations said that they were being eaten by Congo rebels. They are often denied basic human rights and citizenship. (Britannica)
